BARBADOS VOLLEYBALLERS face another daunting task tonight when they meet favourites the United States in the second round of a World Championship qualifier. Barbados would have played hosts Puerto Rico in their first game last night at the Hector Sola Bezares Coliseum in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The feature opening game, which was played on Monday, resulted in the United States dismissing the hosts 25-20, 26-24, 25-22, despite the exhortations of the highly partisan crowd. Earlier, Mexico destroyed Guatemala 25-13, 25-14, 25-11. That one-sided result has given a lot of hope to Barbados who will play Guatemala on Friday with the winner being assured of reaching the semifinals. Of course, Barbados' focus will have to be on getting battle-ready for tonight's game against the United States and then tomorrow's clash against Mexico.
