GEORGETOWN - Reon King has been appointed Guyana captain for 2005-2006 Carib Beer Series.

Pacer King, who had his international career resurrected late last year after a four-year hiatus, gets the top job in the absence of regular captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan, who are on West Indies duties in Australia.

The Guyana Cricket Board named King to lead a 13-man squad - that contains a few significant omissions - facing Barbados in a home game at the Everest Ground on Friday.

Opening batsman Ryan Ramdass, who forced his way into the West Indies side for the Sri Lanka tour this summer after outstanding 2005 first-class season, has paid the price for poor form and only gets named as a reserve.

Batting all-rounder Lennox Cush and pacer Rayon Griffith, regular faces in the Guyana squad in recent years, have also been omitted from the 13-man unit.

The squad: Reon King (captain), Sewnarine Chattergoon, Krishna Arjune, Travis Dowlin, Narsingh Deonarine, Andre Percival, Steven Jacobs, Derwin Christian, Imran Jafferally, Esaun Crandon, Assad Fudadin, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Neil McGarrell. (CMC)
