A MULTIMILLION-DOLLAR yacht-racing project is the latest addition to Barbados' varied menu of water sports. The advent of Ocean Racing Challenge (ORC) makes Barbados the only Caribbean destination offering the experience of yacht racing. Speaking at ORC's launch at its home, the Shallow Draught, last Wednesday evening, director Philip McKeever said ORC has a bight future and "has been readily embraced by tour operators and the cruise industry." McKeever said two maxi-racing yachts, the Athina and the Martella, will be match-raced daily. "By their mere presence they have brought renewed interest in sailing to the island." He said the yachts could be used for a variety of sailing experiences, including private charter and corporate incentives. Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Rudy Grant commended the move, noting that there was always a need to be creative and innovative in the attractions being offered.
