by YVETTE BEST WHO WILL WALK AWAY with the specially crafted 18-carat yellow and white gold ring for Entertainer Of The Year? Can Rihanna emerge as the top awardee for the second time in a row? This year's top contender is Kimberley Inniss with 11 nominations, just one more than Rihanna. How many of these will she take home? The answers to all these questions will start to unfold just after 8 p.m. tonight, when the Barbados Music Awards get under way at the Wildey Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex. After an impressive showing last year, Timeless Entertainment Inc, the event producer, has gone all out to ensure that the second ceremony is an even bigger success. A number of new categories have been added, the venue is much larger and steps have been taken to ensure that the eyes of the world are on Barbados. Several international media representatives are expected to be on hand, and with music scouts from places like Sony/BMG, Arista and Def Jam present, it might only be a matter of time before another Bajan artiste lands a contract with a major label. Some of those executives were presenters at a music industry workshop facilitated by Timeless at Olympus Theatres yesterday. Internationally acclaimed actress Vivica Fox is among those chosen to present awards. Patrons are also in for some dynamic performances from the reunited trio of Kim Derrick, Terencia TC Coward and Rosie Hunte, Rihanna, Charles D. Lewis and many others. The event, which the organisers tagged as formal and encouraged patrons to dress the part, is expected to be a major fashion affair. yvettebest@ nationnews.com
