IT IS HARD TO EXPRESS how very, very happy I was to be privileged to shake the hand of Andrew Burke. He is our newest hero, and all Bajans should be immensely proud of his courage and outstanding achievement. Andrew is extremely modest about his recent single-handed sail around our island, but I sincerely hope matters do not rest here. Perhaps the Barbados Cancer Society will set up some annual award to make sure his heroism will not be forgotten and to encourage others to help worthy causes. Also, perhaps our Government will see its way to recognise his heroism in suitable form. Andrew has not only raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Barbados Cancer Society, thereby helping thousands of Bajans in their suffering from that disease, but has brought to the fore the fact that disabled people can most certainly consider themselves an asset in our community.
