THE IDEAL CHRISTMAS GIFT. The main branch of the National Public Library is set to reopen tomorrow in a new location. Minister of Community Development and Culture Steve Blackett said yesterday that tomorrow's opening was still on track for Independence Square. "All sections, with the exception of the reference section, will be ready for a soft opening tomorrow," he said. Blackett also indicated that the reference section should be ready by the middle of the month, with the official library opening set for "early in the new year". As it was not originally designed to house a library, Blackett said the space had to be retrofitted to serve its new purpose, but is "well-appointed to offer all library services". A far cry from the dilapidated state of the original Public Library at Coleridge Street, The City, the new location seemed close to ready to receive book lovers in clean, up-to-standard surroundings.
