BARBADIAN superstar Rihanna wants people

at home to know that

she is "okay".

Her message to Barbados, delivered by a close friend, comes one day after her (ex) boyfriend Chris Brown was charged with a felony in connection with a domestic violence incident.

Her grandmother, Clara Brathwaite, told the DAILY NATION yesterday: "I don't want people to worry. Rihanna is fine and she is doing well."

She denied claims by some media outlets that Rihanna had a broken nose.

Rihanna and American teenage heart-throb Brown

were both due to perform

at the prestigious 51st Grammy Awards ceremony

on Sunday night, but both cancelled about two hours

before the start of the show.

Turned himself in

A number of showbiz sites and American television networks reported yesterday that Brown and Rihanna

were involved in an alleged confrontation hours before

the curtain went up

at the Grammys.

Brown was driven yesterday to a Los Angeles police station by a high-priced lawyer

where he turned himself

in and was charged.

News of the story was

a headliner across the world yesterday, on showbiz websites, television stations and radio call-in programmes.

Brown, who was accompanied to the police station by

attorney-at-law Mark Geragos, was arrested on a charge of "criminal threat" that could be elevated to domestic dispute, or more by the Los Angeles District Attorney before his next court appearance on March 5.

He posted US$50 000 bail and was released.

"The exact charge was criminal threats and it is going to be investigated as a criminal threats investigation," said Police Sergeant Bridget Pickett, who spoke to reporters at the Wilshire Division Police Station, where Brown was booked.

"There may be domestic violence charges added later,

but that will be up to the district attorney's office,"

he told The Associated Press.

The incident allegedly occurred along a quiet street around 12:30 a.m. Eastern Caribbean time on Sunday.

Brown was reportedly driving a rented Lamborghini vehicle along North June Street near Hancock Park, when the incident occurred.

The 19-year-old and Rihanna, 20, were seen

together Saturday night

at a pre-Grammys dinner

at the Beverly Hills Hilton.

The police statement said Brown and a woman were

in a vehicle near Hollywood's Hancock Park when

"they became involved

in an argument".

"After stopping his car,

Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated," police said.

After receiving a 911 call at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, officers found the woman at the scene of the alleged fight, but Brown had left, the department said.

Rihanna's single hit Disturbia had been nominted for Best Dance Recording;

she was also nominated

in the category of Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals with the pop outfit Maroon 5,

If I Never See Your

Face Again.

She was also nominated in the Best Long Form Music Video with Good Girl Gone Bad Live.
